I had been talking to this fellow Trotter for several days now.\u00a0 The conversation was neither annoying nor fascinating, it was just general conversation via text and email.\u00a0 A not unpleasant diversion.<\/p>\n
We had agreed to meet for a date this week \u2013 and I was actually curious what it would be like to meet Trotter in person. I got the sense he was truly looking for a long-term relationship without being overly intense about it, and that was new and different.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, I was packing up from StellarCon and in the process of carrying too many things at once, I opened up several apps on my phone with the palm of my hand (I hate when that happens!).\u00a0 Annoyed, I immediately started closing out of all of them.\u00a0 One happened to be POF, the dating site Trotter and I had met on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Within minutes, I received a new message from the site, from Trotter:<\/p>\n
\u201cI only signed on here to respond to a message from . . . none other than my ex-girlfriend.\u00a0 She has been on here checking out my profile as well as updating hers . . . OMG . . .whatever<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n
It seemed weird to be getting what seemed to be a defensive explanation from a guy that I hadn\u2019t even been on a date with yet.\u00a0 Why would I care that he was on the site?\u00a0 Or that his ex was checking up on him and updating her site?\u00a0<\/p>\n
I gave back my standard answer when I don\u2019t want to engage in the drama:<\/p>\n
\u201cLOL.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Soon after, I got this message:<\/p>\n
\u201cOMG! Now some black chick on here wants to meet me!!!\u00a0 I am not prejudice[d], but I do not date outside my race.\u00a0 Just my choice and preference.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Is it just me, or does it seem like every time someone starts with \u201cI am not prejudiced\u201d that they almost always are?<\/p>\n
I answered back:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could be missing out on a great opportunity!\u00a0 Some of my best friends sleeping at my house tonight are black! \ud83d\ude42<\/i>\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
His answer:<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I will stay like I am.\u00a0 Again it\u2019s not a prejudicial thing.\u00a0 It\u2019s just my choice.\u00a0 My sister was married to a black guy and two of my three nieces are biracial, so it\u2019s not racial at all.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Umm.\u00a0 Dude?\u00a0 That proves that your sister is not prejudiced, not that you are.\u00a0 And it\u2019s not racial?\u00a0 You just said you didn\u2019t want to date outside your race.\u00a0 Ergo, that would mean that it is, actually, racial.<\/p>\n
